David Shelton (BCom CA PP) – Chartered Accountant David-Shelton
Director

David is born, bred and educated in Dunedin. After graduating from Otago University he worked for Audit New Zealand.

In January 1995 David joined J W Smeaton and became a Partner in 1997. He has been on the Board of the Otago Chamber of Commerce for the past 5 years and has served as its President since January 2017. For an interview on his role, see the following article in the Otago Daily Times:

David is married with two teenage daughters who are accomplished gymnasts competing on both a regional and national level.

 

Jason Cook (BCom CA PP) – Chartered Accountant Jason-Cook
Director

Jason has been a Chartered Accountant since 1995 and has a mix of Commercial and Public Practice experience.

Jason trained at Deloittes, broadened his outlook while working in London Investment Banks for 10 years and gained a valuable appreciation of risk management and financial control procedures while at Fulton Hogan.

Jason strives to be efficient at work to ensure maintenance of a good work life balance. He enjoys interaction with all people, particularly the young. Jason’s never ending interest is with people and how their human natures interact to impact the business and sports worlds.

 

Tony Eyre (CA PP) – Chartered Accountant Tony-Eyre
Director

Tony is a chartered accountant with 40 years experience in public practice. He established his own firm in Dunedin in 1985 and merged with JW Smeaton Ltd in 2007.

Tony has a particular interest in the creative sector and has provided professional services to a large number of art practitioners over the years. He has served on the boards of a number of community organisations and has been on the Permanent External Advisory Committee (PEAC) of the Dunedin School of Art at Otago Polytechnic since 2004. He is also an advisory board member of the Dunedin School of Art Foundation.

He integrates his professional life with a range of literary and artistic pursuits. With his writing interests Tony focuses on creative nonfiction and essay and feature writing and is a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines. His website is www.tonyeyrewriter.com

 

John Mackay (B.Com, CA PP) – Chartered Accountant
Director

John-MackayJohn has over 20 years of experience working in Dunedin as a leader in Chartered Accounting Firms (e.g. as a Partner at Ernst Young and running his own practice).

John has a common sense, down to earth approach to Accounting and offers the type of advice that can only be gained with experience.

 

 

Tony Auckram (BCom, DipGrad, BTheol BA(Hons), ACA)  Tony-Auckram

Tony graduated from Otago University in 1999 and is an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA).

He also graduated with a BTheol in 1994, BA with Honours in 1995, and a Dip Grad in 1999.

He is experienced in business services. He is married with five children and enjoys swimming, hunting and fishing.

 

Marie Sime (BCom(hons), CA) – Chartered Accountant Marie-Syme

Marie is a Chartered Accountant and graduated from the University of Otago in 1996 with BCom (Hons).

She has gained extensive experience in tax administration both with IRD and private practice.

 

 

Tina Dong Tina-Dong(BCom, DipGrad, CA) – Chartered Accountant

Tina graduated from Otago University in 2006 and is a provisional member of the NZICA.

She is fluent in Mandarin and has experience in foreign investment funds and external reporting.

She is married and enjoys travelling, gardening and movies.

 

Ralph-Peter Ralph-PeterHendriks (BCom, DipGrad)

Ralph graduated from Otago University in 2007, obtained a DipGrad in 2008, and is a provisional member of NZICA.

He has experience in tax compliance and general accounting, and an interest in new software and accounting systems .

He was born in The Netherlands and is fluent in Dutch. He is married with three children and enjoys cycling, tramping, movies and reading.

 

John Davey (BSc) John-Davey

John is born and bred in Mosgiel.

He studied Computer Science at Otago University graduating in 1984 and spent some time Computer Programming before moving to Hallenstein’s Head Office.
In 1992 he started working for Chartered Accountant Gary Pearson at his home in East Taieri and from 2007 on the main street of Mosgiel with Gary’s son Jeremy, taking a more active role in the business. John joined JW Smeaton in 2014.

 

Margaret Koski Margaret-Koski

Margaret is our credit control administrator and provides client services. She also assists with PAYE, GST returns and general tax administration.

She has gained valuable experience in accounting in both New Zealand and Australia. She has a son in Auckland and enjoys collecting antique china, gardening, travel and reading.

 

Helen Preston BAcc, Dip Hosp Mgmt Helen Preston 

Helen graduated in 2016 and is a provisional member of CAANZ. She is married with two children and enjoys travelling, fitness and spending time with family and friends.

 

 

Julie Ford (BCom, CA) – Chartered Accountant Julie Ford

Julie graduated from the University of Otago in 1992. She has 20 years experience in managing Accounting and Finance teams in a variety of enterprises including local and regional government, small to medium businesses, and entrepreneurial start-ups.

 

Peter White (retired CA) –  Associate Accountant

Peter has over 50 years of experience working in Dunedin as a Chartered Accountant. As such he offers insights that can only be gained with experience.

 

Rose Foote

Rose graduated from Otago University with a BCom in 1998. She has experience in wages, compliance and management accounting and GST returns. Rose enjoys walking, gardening, reading and computer games.
